SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Torrey Pines is a prestigious club that has hosted numerous PGA Tour events in the past, but today it hosted day one of the Point Loma fall classic.
 
The Eagles traveled to San Diego to take part in their first full tournament of the season and sit in seventh place after shooting plus-71 in the first round of play.
 
"The ladies said this is one of the most beautiful, but challenging courses," said Assistant Coach Jane Carr. "The front nine had beautiful ocean views and there was a group of migrating whales in the distance."
 
The day was not all about enjoying the beautiful views, as the women had to do some work on the course as well.
 
Sophomore Jasmine Rodriguez led all Eagles with an 11-over 85. She sits tied for 25^th after the first day. Jackie Mata put together an 89 and shot the only birdie of the day for BU, putting up a four on the par-5 13^th hole. Mata also had tremendous accuracy off the tee, hitting 12 of 14 fairways.
 
Amanda Hobbs strong short game helped her put together a round of 88 after chipping within three feet on six different holes.
 
"Amanda's overall game is very solid and she will be a strong competitor for Biola this year," said Carr.
 
Megan Anderson and Beth Williams rounded out the counting scores for BU, both shooting a 105.
 
Dallas Baptist leads the seven-school field with a 15-over through the first 18 holes. They tournament will conclude tomorrow afternoon.
