LA MIRADA, Calif. --- This year's Golden State Athletic Conference championship meet was a record-setting one for men and women's outdoor track & field. It marked the first time the women's team ever won the conference championship and the third place finish was the best ever on the men's side.
 
It was a close one as the women's team barely squeaked out a one-point victory over Westmont, outscoring the Warriors 181-180. Bringing in 91 points, the men's team finished behind Westmont and Concordia.
 
The race on the women's side was close throughout and Biola and Westmont sat tied with just two events left to compete. Carrie Soholt and Chelsea Janzen put in some strong finishes in the 5,000m in order to leave the Eagles sitting alone in first place heading into the final event, the 4 x 400m relay.
 
The Warriors reigned supreme in the final event, finishing nearly 11 seconds in front of Biola. However, the second place finish by Tayllor Lemphers, Alisa Murray, Alicia Hoverson and Anika Gasner was good enough to give the Eagles their first ever GSAC outdoor crown.
 
"I have a long list of reasons why we weren't going to make history at this meet," said Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman. "Yet the women reached down deep and really bought into the complete united team atmosphere and I am convinced this is what made all the difference."
 
In addition to the overall win, Megan Crumley, Taylor McCahon and the 4 x 800m relay team took home individual GSAC championships.
 
Peter Stacy scored in four events to help lead the men's side to its best GSAC finish in program history. Proof of the tough competition the men face is the GSAC, the third place finish was only the third time in the last 10 years that the team finished higher than seventh place.
 
It was an all-around team effort to get the 91 points earned on the men's side as, in addition to Stacy's successes, Jeff Tran won an event, and all of the team's relays scored points.
 
This finish was a positive outlook for the future of men's outdoor track & field, as three of the men's point scorers were freshman.
 
Earlier in the year the women's team placed sixth in the NAIA Indoor national championships and the men's team broke two school records.
