Turning Points MBB CLINE

Men's Basketball Neil Morgan, Sports Information Director

TURNING POINTS: MBB - Cline Notches Career-High Against Red Hawks

David Cline's career-high 32 points against Simpson helped keep a four-game winning streak alive.
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For many it was just another Tuesday night in November, but for David Cline and Biola, it was one of the most memorable nights of the 2012-2013 men's basketball season.

It was Nov. 2 and the Eagles hosted Simpson University, a non-conference early-season opponent, nothing about this matchup screamed "big game." No one told Cline that.

Cline went off in this game for a career-high 32 points, the most scored by any Biola men's basketball player over in the previous four seasons. Cline was a sharpshooter from all areas of the court in this game as he led the Eagles to their second of what would eventually be four straight wins to begin the season.

He shot 12-of-18 from the field, 6-of-8 for the free throw line and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He and the Eagles were simply dominant as the team outscored Simpson 46-12 inside the paint en route to picking up Head Coach Dave Holmquist's 809th win at Biola and 845th win as a head coach.

This four game winning streak was the longest that Biola had over the course of the season, and they eventually finished the year 15-16 overall. During the streak the Eagles outscored opponents 295-234, helped in large part by Cline's 59 points during that run.

Cline would go on to be named to the All-Golden State Athletic Conference team and earn an honorable mention on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' All-American squad.

What is Turning Points?

Turning Points is a series highlighting the integral points from each Biola University sport's previous season. Moments can be considered turning points because they spark a winning streak, defeat a bitter rival, include a noteworthy personal achievement or mark a significant team accomplishment. Over the course of the next three weeks, an article will post each weekday illustrating a new turning point.
