LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Seniors Benji Sutherland and Nick Turner along with freshman Sam Thorne have been named to the 2013 All-Golden State Athletic Conference team with junior Johnny Farrington earning conference Gold Glove honors as the GSAC awards were announced on Wednesday.

The trio of Eagles on the all-conference team represented the third-highest total among the conference schools with GSAC champion The Master's College and runner-up Concordia each placing five on the team.

Turner closed out an impressive career at Biola with a solid 2013 campaign. The senior was one of the top pitchers in the conference, posting a 9-5 overall record and a 3.14 ERA in 15 appearances. His 100-1/3 innings pitched were among the tops in the conference and he led the GSAC with an impressive 85:18 strikeout to walk ratio.

Turner threw six complete games out of 14 starts including three shutouts and also added his first career save. He also held opposing hitters to a .250 batting average.

Turner recorded double-digit strikeouts in three games this season including a career-high 13 in victory over San Diego Christian on March 19. His best performance of the season came against Arizona Christian in February as Turner threw a four-hit shutout while striking out 10 batters.

Sutherland also had a solid final season with Biola, posting a .344 batting average with a team-high 65 hits. He added 35 runs scored and 34 RBIs and went 7-for-9 in stolen base attempts. He played solid defense in the outfield, too, recording three outfield assists and committing just three errors in 100 chances. In addition, Sutherland struck out just 12 times in 189 at bats.

Sutherland led the team with 19 multi-hit games and posted a team-best 13-game hitting-streak midway through the season. He collected three hits in a game six times including a 3-for-6 performance in a game at Vanguard on April 20. Sutherland seemed to save the best for last, going 5-for-10 in the final series at San Diego Christian.

Sutherland closed out his career at Biola with a .326 batting average, recording 233 career hits and scoring 154 runs.

Thorne had an outstanding freshman season at Biola and was honored as the lone freshman on the 19-man team. He led the team and ranked fourth in the GSAC with a .356 batting average, adding four home runs, 62 hits, 40 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Thorne was also impressive behind the dish, throwing out 14 of 41 potential base runners and committing four errors in 316 total chances for a .987 fielding percentage.

Farrington was Biola's lone representative on the GSAC Gold Glove team after posing a .959 fielding percentage at shortstop. Farrington committed just nine errors in 222 total chances which led all conference shortstops. In addition, he made impressive plays throughout the season at one of the toughest positions in baseball.

Biola closed out the 2013 season last week with a 25-26 overall record and a 13-23 conference mark.
