Turner's Solid Showing Not Enough For Eagles

Nick Turner
Box Score EL CAJON, Calif. --- Senior pitcher Nick Turner allowed two unearned runs on just seven hits over a complete game but suffered a hard-luck loss as Biola lost 2-1 at San Diego Christian College in a GSAC game on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles drop to 25-24 and to 13-21 in conference play on the heels of their fourth-straight loss and sixth loss in seven games. The Hawks move to 33-16 and to 18-16 in the GSAC.

It was the final collegiate appearance for Turner, who allowed just seven hits over eight innings. The two runs allowed were both unearned and he ended up striking out five in the contest.

However, the Eagles' offense struggled to score more than one run despite 10 hits in the contest.

Biola scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Benji Sutherland opened the frame with a double to right-center and moved to third on a fly out. One out and a walk later, David McNeill picked up his second single in as many at bats to bring in Sutherland with the go-ahead run.

But San Diego Christian answered back with an unearned run in the fifth, scoring on an error after a bunt single.

The Hawks added a run in the eighth inning as an error opened the inning with the run coming around to score on a two-out single.

Biola was able to get the lead-off on batter on in the top of the ninth inning but a double-play erased the baserunner just before a two-out single by MIchael Chriss. But Chriss was stranded after a pop out ended the game.

Biola closes out the season on Saturday with a doubleheader against San Diego Christian beginning at 12:00 pm.
