IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola established a pair of school records and qualified six for the NAIA National Outdoor Championships with a solid showing among the mostly-NCAA Division I field at the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles saw a pair of school records fall in competition as Alexandra Sciarra and Whitney Fredenburg etched their names in the Biola Track and Field history books.

Sciarra broke former Biola standout Natasha Miller's record in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.86, besting Miller's time by nearly a half second. She finished second in her heat and 10th overall, earning an automatic qualifying time by going under 1:04.

In the shot put, Fredenburg broke her own school record set two years ago with a throw of 36 feet, 10.25 inches (11.23 m), putting the shot 10 inches further out than it previous had gone. Her mark was good enough for 17th place overall.

In addition to Sciarra, Kellian Hunt ran a strong 5,000 to earn an "A" cut to the championships, finishing in 17:10.79 for seventh place in the event behind runners from Cornell and UC Santa Barbara. Hunt also earned a provisional cut in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:40.19, winning her flight and placing eighth overall.

Three other Eagles earned provisional qualifying marks as well. Carly Tillery ran an impressive 11:25.5 in the 3,000 steeplechase to finish in sixth place with a "B" cut.

The other two qualifiers came in the pole vault where Jeff Tran and Nicole Falkenstein earned provisional marks. Falkensten finished tied for fourth in the meet by clearing 3.55m (11-1.75) on her second attempt. Tran finished in a five-way tie for fourth place by clearing 4.75m (15-7.0) on his third attempt.

With Easter and Spring Break coming up, Biola will take a bit of a break and return to competition on Saturday, April 12 at the Pomona-Pitzer Classic.
