Marc Opena

LA VERNE, Calif. --- Biola helped the University of La Verne debut its renovated Ortmayer Stadium, hosting the Eagles in a non-scoring dual meet on Saturday afternoon.

Biola used the meet to add two more national qualifiers while two others improved on their national cuts.

Freshman Kellian Hunt earned an "A" cut in the 800, winning the event with a time of 2:17.14, besting the standard of 2:18.60. Anika Gasner bettered her A cut in the 800, finishing just behind Hunt with a time of 2:17.22.

Alexandra Sciarra also won her event and earned a cut, qualifying in the 600 with a time of 1:38.42.

Lauren Houck scored 3,060 points in the pentathlon to better her chances of qualifying as one of the top 16 to go the NAIA Indoor Championships. She had been just over the minimum of 2,700 after the last meet, but moved up with the seventh-best point total this season with the strong showing.

Other first place finishers on the women's side included Nicole Falkenstein in the pole vault (3.23m), Carly Tillery in the 400 hurdles (1:15.66), and Megan Dwight in the triple jump (10.01m). For the men, Andrew Daedler won the 800 (1:57.26), Marc Opena won the 60 hurdles (8.84), James McCahon won the 400 hurdles (1:15.66), Danny Ledesma won the 3,000 (9:05.74), Jeff Tran won the pole vault (4.57m), and Jordan Smith won the long jump with a leap of 6.41m.

Biola closes out the indoor regular season on Saturday, traveling to Concordia for the CUI Last Chance meet.
