Biola Falls 6-3 to Hope International

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola fought through a long, challenging GSAC match on Tuesday afternoon, but could not prevail over Hope International University, falling 6-3 at the Biola Tennis Center.

The loss drops to 2-5 and to 1-4 in GSAC play while Hope International moves to 2-8 and to 1-4 in the conference.

The match started with singles play and Hope took a quick 4-0 lead by taking the Nos. 4-6 matches and No. 2 match in straight-sets. Biola answered back with a 6-2, 6-2 win from David Mossman at No. 1 singles, then earned a big point with a three-set win by Brandon Chang at No. 3 singles.

In that match, Chang won the first set 6-4 and held a 5-4 lead before Jake Barnard from Hope rallied back and took the second set 7-6. In the full third-set tiebreaker, Chang rallied back and took the third set 7-5 to earn the win.

Biola needed a sweep in doubles, but lost the first two doubles matches before Chang and Rodric Pence squeaked out a 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles to account for the final score.

The Eagles take some time off before returning to action on Saturday, March 9, playing at Westmont College at 11:00 a.m.
