LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola earned its first victory of the season with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Arizona Christian University in a GSAC match on Friday afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center.
The Eagles move to 1-5 on the season and to 1-3 in GSAC play while dropping the Firestorm to 5-4 and to 1-1 in the conference.
Singles started off the day and the two teams split the first six match. Biola got a win at No. 3 singles to start things off as Olivia Koelsch won after an ACU player suffered an injury heading in the second set.
Arizona Christian took the next two matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, but Kathryn Ashford tied it up with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Susan Carmichael followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles but a win at No. 2 by Arizona Christian tied the match at 3-3 heading to doubles.
In the doubles portion, Biola was able to quickly secure the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Carmichael and Ashford won easily at No. 2 doubles, sweeping to an 8-0 win. Alisha Hansen and Koelsch followed with an 8-2 win at No. 1 to give Biola the match.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, traveling to Cal Tech for a non-conference match in Pasadena.
