PASADENA, Calif. --- Biola got its first win of the new era under Head Coach David Goodman as the Eagles defeated Cal Tech 5-4 in a non-conference match on Friday afternoon at the Braun Tennis Courts in Pasadena.
Biola improves to 1-3 while the Beavers fall to 0-3.
Biola got off to a strong start with two wins in the doubles competition. At No. 1 doubles, Isaiah Pekary and David Mossman teamed up for an 8-4 win to start things off with Rodric Pence and Brandon Chang winning 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 team of Greg Cobian and Chris Evans narrowly lost a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, falling 9-8 (7-5) to just miss the doubles' sweep.
In singles, Biola clinched the match with three wins. Mossman pulled out a close second set to win 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1. Chris Evans won a pair of close sets at No. 4 winning 6-4, 6-4 while Pence cruised to a relatively easy 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6.
The Eagles close out a busy stretch of three matches in three days, returning to GSAC play on Saturday with a trip to Irvine to face No. 10 Concordia at 10:00 a.m.
