Eagles Play Well, Fall 7-2 at No. 10 Vanguard

COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Biola put up a good fight against one of the NAIA's top teams, but ultimately fell 7-2 in a GSAC match at No. 10 Vanguard University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles drop to 0-3 on the season and to 2-0 in the GSAC. The Lions move to 3-0 and are 3-0 in GSAC play.

The match of the day was a thriller at No. 4 singles where Biola's Susan Carmichael battled against Vanguard's Gabriele Alford. After losing the first set 6-2, Carmichael rallied back to take the second set 7-5. With overall match already decided, the two played a tiebreaker to 10. The tiebreaker took 37 minutes and features some intense rallies. But in the end Carmichael was able to pull it out 10-7.

The Eagles also picked up a win at No. 2 double where Carmichael teamed with Kathryn Ashford for an 8-2 win over Michaele Sullivan and Anita Taranto.

Biola returns to the courts on Friday, traveling to Thousand Oaks to take on California Lutheran University in a non-conference match at 2:00 p.m.
