REDLANDS, Calif. --- Huge numbers came out for the Bulldog Pentathlon at Redlands University, and some of Biola's swimmers rose to the top of the crop in a day filled with successful swims.
 
Christine Tixier and Chad LeJeune had fantastic days in the pool marked by their two top three overall finishes. Tixier finished second overall out of about 130 women swimmers, and LeJeune ended in third of about 110.
 
LeJeune finished in second place in the 100-breaststroke, but in his attempt he broke the school record for that event (:59.76).
 
"I was especially excited to see Chad break the record in the 100-breaststroke," said Head Coach Eddie Shepard. "It is not every meet you see a freshman break a school record."
 
The way the pentathlon worked was that each swimmer participated in the 100-yard freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly and then the 100-individual medley. The swimmers with the lowest combined times were the winners of the pentathlon, and three awards were given on the men and women's sides.
 
"The Bulldog Pentathlon is always a fun meet because we get to see every swimmer swim every stroke," said Shepard. "I feel our team looked strong despite the hard week of workouts. I was glad to see they are continuing to drop time as we move towards the end of the fall semester."
 
Falling times were consistent throughout the day, as the Eagles swimmers dropped times in 28 individual events, including LeJeune and Marko Ausensi, who both dropped times in each event they swam in.
 
A lot of swimmers also changed up their routine due to the format of this meet, as 19 swimmers participated in at least one event they had not previously competed in this season.
 
"Overall, I am very encouraged as we work towards the Orange County Invitational at SOKA next weekend," said Shepard.
