RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- It was not an easy afternoon for Biola as their two teams lost by a total of 289 points to National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II member California Baptist.
The Lancers defeated Biola 210-75 in the women's dual meet and 214-60 on the men's side in a rough morning for Head Coach
Eddie Shepard and his squad.
Â
"We knew going into the meet today that it would be a tough time going against a powerful CBU squad," said Shepard. "We have been working a lot in practice these last two weeks on some specific stroke things that I wanted our kids to implement in their races today. They did a great job of not only racing hard, but also demonstrating that they have picked up on all the things that we have been working on."
Â
Despite the less than desirable team finish, some individuals put in some good swims in the early morning meet.
Chad LeJeune continued to prove his strength on the men's side by winning both the 50- and 100-breaststroke. It is his second win this year in the 100-breaststroke (1:00.44), and first win in his first time swimming the 50-breaststroke (:27.68).
Â
Christine Tixier and
Angela Kirschner continued their successful seasons by picking up wins in the 50-butterfly and 200-freestyle, respectively. It was Tixier's first time this season swimming the 50-butterfly (:26.11). It was Kirschner's second win and fourth time swimming the 200 (2:00.45).
Â
In addition to the four wins, the Eagles picked up five second-place swims, including three by Kirschner and Tixier. The other two came courtesy of
Megan Nerud (100-breaststroke – 1:12.98) and
Abby Blake (200-freestyle – 2:02.54).
Â
"We have also had a hard month of training and I knew that our kids were very broken down going into today," said Shepard. "Despite being so tired, I was impressed that our kids were able to swim so close to their best times for the season. I am excited to see how well they will do when we are rested for the Winter Invitational coming up in January."
Â
The Eagles have competed in events in six of the last seven weeks, and they will get a much-earned two-week break as they prepare for the 2013 Winter Invitational hosted by La Verne, coming up Dec. 13-14.
