Finding Fifth

A strong push by all golfers put Biola in fifth place at the conclusion of the CSUSM Fall Classic.

Amanda Hobbs and all of the women's golfers dropped strokes on day two to get BU's best finish of the year.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- It took considerable effort, but Biola managed to drop 20 strokes from its cumulative round one score in order to move into the top five after the final round of the CSU San Marcos Fall Classic.

After yesterday's play the Eagles found themselves seemingly set in sixth place, as they trailed the fifth place school by 10 strokes. A big effort from Megan Anderson and the other players helped BU push past Northern New Mexico and finish in fifth place with a two-stroke cushion.

Anderson improved her personal score by eight strokes, dropping from a 98 on day one to today's 90. Her two rounds combined to give her the fourth best score on the squad and 27th place individually.

Jackie Mata again led the Eagles, finishing in a tie for 14th after her 85 today gave her a combined score of 174 (+30). She finished 23 strokes off the pace of individual champion Alyssa Waite of CSU San Marcos.

CSUSM were the big winners, taking the school title by finishing 39 strokes ahead of the second place team, Embry-Riddle.

Every Biola athlete improved upon their first round score, as Amanda Hobbs shot a 180 (+36) to finish 19th, Jasmine Rodriguez penciled in a 183 (+39) to place 22nd and Beth Williams shot a 189 (+45) to finish 30th overall.

The fifth place out of eight teams finish is the best placement that BU achieved in its fall season. Now the squad will break for the winter before returning to the links in the early spring.
