Preseason Basketball Polls Released

Both Biola teams expected to improve on their 2012-13 finish in the GSAC preseason polls.

Mike Kurtz and Adijat Adams are both returning players key to their teams success this season.
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The preseason Golden State Athletic Conference coaches' polls were released on Monday and Biola got picked to finish middle of the pack in both lists.

The men's squad received one first place vote and was picked to finish in fourth place in the conference. This season Dr. Dave Holmquist completely retooled and refreshed the team by bringing in 12 new players. Concordia was tabbed to finish first in GSAC play.

The Eagles placed seventh in the GSAC last season, but the voters gained confidence in the squad after seeing the roster shuffle and the newer offensive scheme. In addition to the 12 new players, BU brings back three of its top offensive and defensive threats in Mike Kurts, Andre Murrillo and Cody Wittick.

The men's team begins its season Nov. 9 with a game at West Coast Baptist; their home opener is Nov. 12 against CSU San Marcos.

The women's contingent placed fifth in the preseason poll, just two points behind San Diego Christian who sat in fourth. A fifth place finish would be an upgrade for the Eagles who finished tied for sixth last year. Vanguard narrowly led Westmont for the first place rank.

Dr. Bethany Miller has done some shuffling of her own, adding two new assistant coaches and six new players. Perhaps most important for BU is that Adijat Adams, an All-American last season, is returning this year for her senior season.

The Eagles open their season with a road game at Simpson on Nov. 1, and they battle Cal Maritime in their home opener on Nov. 8.
