No. 23 Biola loses out to No. 6 Vanguard in NAIA match of the week.

The shots were there for Biola, but the goals were not as they were shutout by the No. 6 Vanguard Lions.
Box Score COSTA MESA, Calif. --- It has been a long time since No. 6 Vanguard has played on a field of its own for one of its intercollegiate competitions, but today the Lions christened their new turf by defeating No. 23 Biola 2-0.

The two Golden State Athletic Conference rivals entered the game with high expectations and increased anticipation as the competition was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics match of the week.

The Lions offense came out with fervor, looking to put the stamp on their new field in the first official game ever played on it. Kayla Arenas, the GSAC's leading scorer, came out and put BU in a hole immediately, scoring her 13th goal of the season just 14 seconds into the match. The goal was scored off two passes coming directly from VUSC's opening kick.

The two squads played fairly even for the rest of the first half, with Vanguard getting the majority of the chances, but BU finding chances by winning four corner kicks. The Lions chances continued to build up as VUSC's scorers looked to maintain momentum on a blustery day in Costa Mesa.

Eventually the momentum came to a head, and Megan Stoll was able to put her head on a pass off a free kick by Asia Kleinmeyer and put the ball in the back of the net to give the Lions the 2-0 lead in the 41st minute.

Biola came out of the locker room and picked up the pressure on the Lions' defense. They took eight shots, six of them on goal, in the final 45 ticks, but VUSC keeper Lauren Terry turned everything aside.

Terry picked up the win on a shutout to move to 12-1-0 on the year, and handed a loss to Briana Williams who moves to 5-5-1.

The loss drops the Eagles to 7-6-1 (1-4-1 GSAC) as they have lost four of their last six contests. They will look to right the ship as they return home this week for a Wednesday night match against Hope International.
