LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Baseball at Biola is entering into a brand new era as the team has a new head coach for the first time since the 1998 season.
 
Jay Sullenger takes control of his squad and gets to see them in action today as the fall baseball season gets underway. BU plays two fall ball games at Eagle Diamond this season, one today at 2:00 p.m. against Cerro Coso CC, and one Nov. 9 against Taft CC at 11:00 a.m.
 
Sullenger takes the reigns of a squad that competed to a 25-26 record a year ago under longtime head coach John Verhoeven. That marked two consecutive years a Verhoeven-coached team finished under the .500-mark, after 14 straight winning seasons to start his tenure.
 
The goal for Sullenger is not only to lead the team to a winning season on the field, but make a positive impact on the squad's character and desire to know God.
 
"We have talked about growing in our knowledge of the gospel and really seeking to put Christ at the center of all we do," Sullenger said in a recent interview with The Chimes.
 
All of this change comes to fruition today, with the first pitch of the season being thrown at 2 p.m.
