Biola Blows By Bethesda, 11-1

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's pitchers allowed just one run on six hits while the offense pounded out 11 runs on 15 hits as the Eagles defeated Bethesda University 11-1 in a non-conference game on Tuesday at Eagles Diamond.

Biola picks up its third-straight win to improve to 6-1 on the season while dropping the Flames to 0-4.

The Eagles pitching continued to shine through the early-season as six Biola pitchers limited Bethesda's offense. David Schwab picked up his first Biola victory, throwing four scoreless innings, striking out four while scattering three hits. The bullpen surrendered just one run on three hits over the final five innings.

Biola pitcher's scoreless streak came to an end at 25 innings as Bethesda scored in the top of the fifth, but the Eagles were still able to lower their team ERA to 1.37.

The offense was spread around well, though Paul Slater had the best night, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a double.

David McNeill helped get the offense going early as the Eagles scored five in the first inning. Slater led off the frame with a single then stole second. After a walk and a fly out, Biola loaded the bases on a walk to Sam Thorne. Will Lawrence broke the ice with a sacrifice fly followed by a walk to Sage Poland to re-load the bases. McNeill then cleared them with a long home run to left, his first and the team's second of the season.

Biola added another in second as Slater again opened the inning with a single. He was moved to second on a ground out and scored three batters later on a single by Lawrence to make it 6-0

The Eagles broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Nick Oddo led off the inning with a triple to right and scored on a single by Lawrence. After a walk to Poland and two fly outs, the Eagles scored again on a Single by Tanner Swire, the Slater drove in a pair with a double to left-center to make it 10-0.

Bethesda scored a run in the top of the fifth, but Biola answered that run with one of its own in the bottom of the frame. Luke Klocek led off with a double to left, then scored on a triple by Sam Thorne to account for the final run of the game.

Lawrence finished the game going 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Swire went 3-for-4 in the nine-hole.

Biola returns to GSAC play on Friday, opening a three-game series in Santa Barbara against Westmont College at 2:00 p.m. The series concludes with a doubleheader at Westmont on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
