Eagles Open Season With 14th-Place Finish

PHOENIX --- Biola posted its best team round in program history with a first-round 319, but struggled on day two, finishing 14th among 17 teams at the Grand Canyon University Fall Classic at the Wigwam Resort Red Course on Monday and Tuesday.

The Eagles battle course conditions which featured 100-plus degree temperatures throughout the two-day tournament, but still managed a solid showing. Biola finished with a two-round 661, just 14 shots out of 11th place in the 17-team tournament. Host Grand Canyon University won the even with a 603--five shots better than Oklahoma Christian and Cal State San Marcos, which finished tied for second.

Freshmen Ava Lourenco did well in her first collegiate tournament, finishing tied for eighth with a eight-over 150 including a first-round 71 which was one-shot off the lead. She opened the tournament with nine-straight pars, then recorded birdies on 10 and 13, hitting a bogie on 16--her lone one of the day before finishing with a 71.

Lauren Marlow finished tied for 36th in the 89-player field, carding a 160 (80-80) with freshman Jasmine Rodriguez finishing 75th in her first collegiate tournament at 175 (83-92) while Jackie Mata placed 76th with a 176 (85-91). Megan Anderson was 82nd with a 185.

Biola wastes little time returning to the course, heading back to Arizona to take part in the Embry-Riddle Invitational on Sunday and Monday at the Talking Rock Golf Course in Prescott.
