Biola's 2012 Schedule Features 11 Road Matches

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's men's soccer team must quickly become road warriors as 11 of the Eagles' 18 regular season games and both of their pre-season scrimmages take part away from home as Head Coach Bryan Kuderman released his upcoming schedule for the 2012 season.

The Eagles' 18-game schedule opens the year with a pair of scrimmages against NCAA Division II schools including trips to Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino on Aug. 25 and 28, respectively. The regular-season kicks off with a return to the rivalry against Azusa Pacific University on Saturday, Sept. 1, in Azusa.

After a Labor Day match against cross-town foe Whittier College, Biola opens its abbreviated home schedule with a game against NAIA newcomer La Sierra University on Wednesday Sept. 5, at 7:00 p.m.

The Eagles then travel over to Carson to take on Marymount College on Sept. 7 before returning home to take on Pacific Union College on Tuesday, Sept. 11 on 7:00 p.m.

That will be the final home game of the month for the Eagles who play five-straight road games. First up is a trip south to face tough NAIA foe Cal State San Marcos (Sept. 19), then heads north for two final non-conference tune-ups against Simpson University (Sept. 21) and Menlo College (Sept. 22).

The Golden State Athletic Conference schedule has changed a bit with eight teams in the conference this year. Biola plays Arizona Chrisitan, Concordia and The Master's in a home-and-home series while taking on Hope International, San Diego Christian, Vanguard and Westmont just once for a 10-game conference schedule. The six teams with the best conference record at the end of the season qualify for the GSAC Tournament with the top two teams receiving a bye.

Biola opens GSAC play on Sept. 26, staying on the road to face The Master's College in Santa Clarita. The Eagles then battle GSAC rival Concordia University on Sept. 29 in a high-noon clash in Irvine in a rematch of last season's GSAC Tournament Championship game won by Biola.

The Eagles' GSAC home opener comes on Oct. 4 as Biola hosts conference newcomer Arizona Christian University at 7:00 p.m. After a trip to Santa Barbara to face Westmont College (Oct. 6), the Eagles play two-straight home games against San Diego Christian (Oct. 10) and Vanguard (Oct. 13).

Sandwiched between road games at Hope International (Oct. 16) and Arizona Christian (Oct. 24) is another clash against Concordia University on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7:00 pm. The Eagles then close out the regular season with a home game against The Master's College on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The GSAC Tournament runs Oct. 31-Nov. 10 with the NAIA Opening Round taking place on Nov. 17 at campus sites. The winners of those opening-round matches head to the NAIA Final Site at Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery, AL, on Nov. 26-Dec. 1.

Biola reached the NAIA Tournament for the second time in three seasons by virtue of winning the GSAC Tournament for the first time in program history. The Eagles posted a 13-5-3 overall record and finished fifth in the GSAC with a 5-4-0 record. Biola played to a 1-1 tie against No. 15 Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) but failed to advance after losing 4-2 in penalty kicks.
