LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola University Men's Tennis Coach Jim Emerson, who guided the team for eight years including the last six since its reinstatement as a varsity sport, has resigned from the position.

Emerson, a USTPA certified coach, closes out his second stint as the head coach of the Biola men's tennis program, first taking the reigns from 1997-98, then helping lead the Eagles return beginning in 2007.

Despite coaching with limited resources and playing in the toughest conference in the NAIA, Emerson was able to post an overall record of 33-114 in eight seasons. During the last six years, he has helped steadily improve the program, guiding the Eagles to a 22-92 overall record and a 6-67 record in GSAC matches.

Biola's best season came this past season when then Eagles finished 28th in the final NAIA National Poll, taking games in nearly all of its GSAC matches and being swept just five times overall. The Eagles would finish 5-14 on the season and 2-12 in conference play.

“Jim worked hard to improve our tennis program,” said Biola Athletic Director Dr. Dave Holmquist. “He was dedicated to his players and cared about the right things. We will miss him.”
