Box Score CARSON, Calif. --- Biola allowed 13 early runs and a late rally fell short in a 15-8 non-conference loss to NCAA Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills on Tuesday afternoon at Toro Field.
The Eagles suffer their fifth-straight loss and fall to 17-21 on the season while the Toros improve to 9-19 overall.
Biola used a quartet of four relievers against Cal State Dominguez Hills and the Toros were able to jump out to the early lead with a seven-run second inning and adding five runs in the third.
The big blow came in the third as Drew Rodela blasted a grand slam to right-center field to put CSUDH up 13-0 in the third inning.
After the Toros added another in the fourth inning, Biola rallied with three runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead down a bit. With no one out and runners at second and third, Benji Sutherland drove home a pair with a single to center. A walk and a single loaded the bases and Drake Fages brought home Sutherland with a sacrifice fly.
In the sixth, Wesley Cottier led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. He would come around to score on a ground out by Paul Slater. But after an error extended the inning, walks loaded the bases and Fages drove home two more with a single to right. Nick Covyeau followed with a double to left to plate two more and cut the lead to 13-8 after six.
But the Toros would add a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and help Biola to just four singles the rest of the way to cruise to the win.
Erick Allen suffered the loss to fall to 3-2.
Fages was the lone Biola player to collect multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Biola takes a bit of a break, returning to action on Thursday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m. in the first game of a four-game GSAC series.
