OKLAHOMA CITY --- Biola closed out the 2012 NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships with another impressive showing from its men's relay quartet which set its fifth school record and placed fourth overall in the 400 Free relay on Saturday at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center.

Biola wrapped up its season with a pair of Top 10 finishes as the men's team placed sixth while the women finished seventh overall. 

Biola's 4x100 men's relay team of Nick Steadman, Austin Sarna, Nathan Roe, and Chris Stutzman touched the wall in a school-record time of 3:04.95 to take home fourth place and highlight the day. The 400 relay marked the 10th time at this year's nationals these four men have competed together in five different relays, setting school records in all five.

Biola began Saturday morning with a record-shattering performance by Stutzman in the 100 freestyle. The junior touched finished with an impressive time of 45.33, becoming the first in program history to break the 46-second barrier in the event and completing his sweep of the school sprint freestyle records.

Stutzman's time seeded him sixth in the finals heat against seven other competitors from Oklahoma Baptist University, Fresno Pacific University, and Concordia University. In the finals, Stutzman took his first 50 out in a split of 21.49 to finish in 5th place with a time of 45.16, nearly an entire second faster than his time last year at the championships.

On the women's side, freshman Megan Nerud posted a season-best time of 2:08.35 in the 200 backstroke, out-touching the nearest competitor in the consolation finals by nearly two seconds.

Biola also placed two athletes in the top 16 after the morning prelims in the 200 breaststroke. In the consolation final heat, junior Bethany Turner raced to the wall in a time of 2:35.98. One heat later, in the final, freshman Christine Tixier used her momentum from yesterday's NAIA record-setting swim in the 100 fly to propel her to a fourth-place finish in 2:23.21.

Likewise, in the 200 fly, senior and current school record holder Brittney Rosania recorded another top-16 finish, placing 12th overall in a time of 2:15.21.

The highlight of Saturday night would come in the final event and heat of the championships in the 400 free relay. The quartet was ranked first in the finals after a strong morning showing. The Eagles led off with their freshman sprinter Nick Steadman, who recorded a season-best split of 46.68. Teammates Austin Sarna and Nathan Roe followed suit in the second and third legs of the relay with splits of 47.63 and 46.71 before sending Biola's sprint champion Chris Stutzman to the water. Stutzman's split of 43.93 was the fastest in school history by almost a second and a half and led Biola to a come from behind fourth place finish and a time of 3:04.95. Only one other competitor from any team in the NAIA recorded a faster 100 split.

The relay marked not only the end of the championships but also the end of the 2011-2012 swim season for Biola. The Eagles finish their best season in program history, with 14 new school records, 15 top eight finishes, an All-American swim, and an NAIA national record.
