Baek Pitches Gem as Biola Shutouts The Master's, 6-0

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Chris Baek tossed a five-hit, complete-game shutout to lead Biola to a 6-0 victory in the second game of a GSAC series at The Master's College on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles take the first two games of the four-game series and improve to 16-17 on the season and to 8-6 in GSAC play. The Mustangs fall to 20-11, 9-8 in conference action.

Baek put together his finest start as an Eagle, striking out seven while not walking a batter of his nine innings of work, improving to 4-2 on the season.

Meanwhile half of the offense came from home runs from unlikely sources as Michael Annunziata hit a solo home run in the fourth--his second of the season--and Benji Sutherland connected on a two-run home run in the sixth--just the second of his career.

The Eagles got things going in the first with three quick runs to take the early lead. Sutherland started the game off with a double to left. Annunziata followed with an RBI-single to bring home the game's first run. After an error extended the inning, Drake Fages drove home a run with a double to right-center.

One out later, Mac Sullivan and Wesley Cottier drew walks to load the bases and Paul Slater drove in a run the hard way by being hit by a pitch to make it 3-0.

Annunziata and Sutherland added their runs to give Baek more support than he would need on the afternoon. The junior allowed just two batters past second base in the game and--to prove he wasn't running out of gas late--retired the final seven batters of the game including three by strikeout.

Baek's only real jam came in the fourth. After a leadoff single, Baek was able to get a strikeout for the first out of the inning. But after an error, he found himself with runners at second and third with only one out. However, he got a pop out and strikeout to end the threat.

The two teams close out the four-game series with a doubleheader at Biola on Saturday beginning at Noon.
