Verhoeven Wins Game No. 500 as Biola Beats British Columbia, 7-2

Box Score REDDING, Calif. --- Biola Head Coach John Verhoeven picked up his 500 career victory as the Eagles picked up a big non-conference victory on Thursday night, beating the University of British Columbia 7-2 at Simpson University.

Biola moves back to .500 on the season at 5-5 with the win, snapping a two-game losing streak. The Thunderbirds move to 3-3.

Verhoven had to wait a little longer than many had hoped after the Eagles dropped a pair of games including blowing a late lead on Tuesday against Cal State LA. He is Biola's all-time winningest coach and boasts an overall record of 500-251-6 in 15 seasons at the helm.

Jeff Grivalja got the start on the night for the Eagles and dominated after a rocky first inning. He surrendered one in the first but cruised the rest of way, going 7-2/3 innings before giving way to J.T. Mickelson, who closed out the game.

Offensively, Benji Sutherland and Johnny Farrington broke out of mini-slumps by each collecting three hits on the day. Farrington added the final run of the game in dramatic fashion, dislodging the ball from the UBC catcher on a collision at the plate in the eighth inning.

The Eagles continue the weekend trip to Redding with two games on Friday, facing British Columbia at 2:00 p.m. before facing host Simpson University at 5:30 p.m.
