David Cline recorded an 11-point, 14-rebound double-double while junior
Zack Zaragoza added 15 points as Biola defeated Bethesda University in a non-conference game on Wednesday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season while dropping the Flames to 0-2.
Zaragoza led five Biola players in double figures with 15 points while Cline narrowly missed a triple-double, scoring 11 points with 14 rebounds and adding six assists.
Freshman Dalton Mosser scored 13 points thanks to three three-pointers while Kyle Bailey contributed 11 points including seven in the first half.
Biola opened strong, taking a quick 7-2 lead and holding a 25-14 lead on a bucket by Kyle Bailey with just over five minutes left in the half. Bethesda took advantage of sloppy play by the Eagles and cut the lead to six at 30-24 as the teams went to the half.
The Flames pulled to within three at 32-29 to start the second half, but Zaragoza drained a three from the top of the key to stretch the lead to six. The trey started a 20-7 Biola run which saw the lead balloon to 52-36 with 10:50 to play. Despite a late run by Bethesda, Biola held the lead down the stretch for the 72-58 win.
Biola shot an impressive 51.6 percent from the field in the second half and hit 41.3 percent overall in the game. The Eagles also dominated the board, out-rebounding the Flames 45-29.
Biola returns to action next week, traveling south to face Cal State San Marcos on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
