Biola Knocked Out of GSAC Tournament in 2-1 Loss at San Diego Christian

Sava Pantic
Box Score EL CAJON, Calif. --- Biola allowed a pair of goals over a four-minute span and despite getting one back shortly thereafter, could not find an equalizer, falling 2-1 to San Diego Christian College in a GSAC Tournament semifinal match on Saturday afternoon.

The loss likely ends the Eagles' season with a record of 11-7-1 while the Hawks (12-4-1) advance to the GSAC Finals to face top-seed Concordia.

After a relatively quiet first half, the game got exciting in the second. San Diego Christian had the first great chance to score after Biola was whistled for a hand ball in the box. That gave the Hawks a penalty kick which was taken by Justin Picou. However, Joshua Crichton came up huge, making a diving save, deflecting off the post where it was cleared from danger.

In the 73rd minute the game got a bit crazy. The Hawks managed to get on the board as Emmanuel Onywera scored to make it 1-0. After the play a scuffle ensued and both teams had a player sent off with a red card.

Just over four minutes later, the Hawks struck again as Onywera tallied a second goal to make it 2-0.

San Diego Christian had little time to celebrate, however as Biola got a quick goal thanks to Kevin Kiser and Sava Pantic. Kiser sent a great cross from the left to Pantic streaking toward the goal and he converted the attempt just 18 seconds later.

Biola had a number of chances late in the contest but found not convert. Aaren Lewis had a great crack at goal just 50 seconds after the Eagles tied it, but it was saved by the SDCC net minder. The same was true of an attempt by Kevin Kiser in the 88th minute. Biola's last chance came during the countdown as Daniel Chew rose above the defense to flick a header on frame, only to see it saved by the Hawk's goalkeeper.

Freshman Joshua Crichton played a solid game in goal, making eight saves including stoning the PK attempt, but suffered the loss by allowing two goals. Alex Cozzi--the net minder for San Diego Christian--recorded three saves in the win.
