ORANGE, Calif. --- Biola had a solid performance at its first meet of 2012 with the men's team edging Chapman University on the final relay and the women posting good mid-season times in a pair of dual losses on Saturday at Chapman.

The Eagles' men's team beat Chapman 97-93, taking home the victory with a win in the final event, the 400 free relay. Nick Steadman swam the final leg of the race, starting behind the Chapman swimmer, but out touching him at the wall by a fraction of the second to give Biola the win. 

Steadman, who swam the anchor leg on Biola's other relay win--the 400 medley relay, picked up an invididual victory of his own by taking the 100 freestyle in 49.47. 

The Eagles' Austin Lewis picked up wins on both the 1m and 3m boards during the diving competition to help propel Biola to the win.

On the women's side, Biola was edged by the hosts, losing to Chapman 184-116 and falling to NCAA Division II squad Lock Haven University, 181-107.

Wins were tough to come by for the Eagles, but Megan Nerud picked up an individual win in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.30. Biola also got a relay win at the end of the meet, taking the 400 free relay in a time of 3:51.27 thanks to solid swims by Christine Tixier, Brittney Rosania, Rachael Sirjord and Amber Kiel.

Biola returns to the pool next week, hosting Azusa Pacific and Pepperdine in a double-dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Splash Water Park in La Mirada.
