Biola Splits Dual Meet at Concordia

Bethany Turner

IRVINE, Calif. --- For the first time in its short history against Concordia University, the Biola University women's team came away victorious in a dual meet, defeating its namesake Eagles 126-99 in the final regular-season dual meet on Saturday ay the Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine.

The Biola men suffered a tough loss against one of the top-ranked teams in the NAIA, falling 193-33.

Biola seemed to save its best for last as five swimmers earned new national qualifying times on the women's side. In addition, Biola was able to pull off the dual meet victory over a tough opponent.

Despite getting off to a rough start with its top medley relay team being disqualified in the first event, Biola won 10 of the remaining 13 events to take home the win.

Brittany Rosania, Christine Tixier and Bethany Turner each won a pair of events for Biola. Rosania earned new qualifying times in winning the 100 fly in 1:00.39 and the 200 fly in 2:14.01. Bethany Turner also pulled down a pair of new cuts despite swimming unopposed in the 100 breast (1:09.74) and the 200 breast (2:29.69).

Tixier continued to shine with wins in the 50 free and the 200 individual medley while Megan Nerud took home first place in the 100 back.

Rounding out the qualifiers were Monica Hurt, who earned a new cut with a first place finish and time of 55.77 in the 100 free. Amber Kiel added another cut to her collection by winning the 200 backstroke in 2:15.70.

Rachael Sirjord recorded two new cuts in the 50 free (3rd-25:67) and the 100 fly (2nd-1:00.53).

Biola now preps for the postseason with the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships up first. The conference meet takes place at the Splash Aquatics Center in La Mirada this year and runs Feb. 8-11.
