LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola University men's basketball team--fresh off back-to-back NAIA Quarterfinal appearances--has released its 2011-12 schedule, playing 30 games including 16 home games and a tough tournament in Utah.
The Eagles are under the direction of Head Coach
Dr. Dave Holmquist, who enters his 32nd season of coaching as one of just 16 coaches to win 800 or more games with an overall mark 816-300.
The 2011-12 season will begin with a pair of road games in the Bay area as Biola faces Menlo College on Nov. 3 and Pacific Union College on Nov. 4.
The Eagles' home opener comes on Saturday, Nov. 12, against Arizona Christian University in a 3:00 p.m. tile and is the first of three-straight home games. On Monday, Nov. 14, Biola hosts Holy Names University, then faces first-year program Cal State San Marcos on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
Golden State Athletic Conference play once again begins early for the Eagles, who host Vanguard University in their conference opener on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Biola makes its longest trip of the season in mid-December, traveling to Salt Lake City, UT, for the Westminster College Classic. The Eagles take on Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) on Friday, Dec. 16, then face host Westminster on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Biola has a busy schedule over the Holiday season, welcoming back three Canadian schools for non-conference games on Dec. 28-30.
The rest of the schedule has the Eagles competing in GSAC play starting with a tough back-to-back series against Azusa Pacific and Concordia.
The big rivalry game against Azusa Pacific University is set for Tuesday, Jan. 31 and carries special significance with the Cougars moving to NCAA Division II starting in 2012. The game will be the final in the best small-college rivalry on the West Coast.
Biola reached the NAIA Quarterfinals in 2010-11, posting a 28-6 overall record. However, the Eagles have no returners from that team and will be fielding an all new team in 2011-12.
