FRESNO, Calif. --- Biola broke two records--a school record and a GSAC Meet Record--and the women's team sits in second with the men in third after a busy first day of action at the 2011 GSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet in Fresno.

The Biola women's team has 65.33 points, just 3.67 points behind first-place Azusa Pacific after one day of competition. The Eagles are are nearly 30 points ahead of third-place Westmont. On the men's side, the Eagles are in third place with 28 points, with everyone falling well behind first-place Fresno Pacific, which has 81 points.

Biola senior Kelsey Gasner led the way in the steeplechase, leading a 1-2 BIola finish in the event. Gasner crossed the finish line in a meet record time of 10:54.30, beating the old mark by over four seconds. Nychelle Fischetti finished second with a time of 11:10.85. Biola also received points in the event from Erika Perez and Rebecca Asplund, who finished seventh and eighth, respectively. 

Biola also took first and second in the pole vault with Taylor McCahon recording the top spot by clearing 11-feet, 3-3/4 inches. In second place was Alexandra Zalesky with a mark of 10-feet, 10-inches. 

The Eagles placed three in the top seven of the 10,000 with Sarah Brooks finishing third in 37.15.29, just a second off her best time of the season. Jane Kerner placed sixth (38.33.42) and Rachel Stump finished seventh (39.44.66). 

The women's 4x800m relay team of Brooke Forsi, Carissa Bowman, Clarrisa Kenney and Katie Thede had a solid showing, placing second overall with a time of 9:44.27. 

Natasha Miller finished second in the long jump and broke a school record by recording the fastest preliminary time in the 100m hurdles. In the hurdles, Miller became the first NAIA female athlete this season to crack the 14 second mark, crossing in 13.98 to break the school record and recording the top qualifying time for Saturday's finals.

In the long jump, Miller finished second with a leap of 5.84m (19-feet, 2-inches), but was edged out on the final attempt by a competitor from Azusa Pacific. 

On the men's side, the Eagles had two pole vaulters finish in the top four as Alex Calkins finished second by clearing 14-feet, 9-inches (4.50m) and Tyler Nives placing fourth by clearing 12-feet, 3.5-inches (3.75m).

In the 3,000m steeplechase, Carter Williams picked up six points with a time of 9:29.49, placing third as the top four finishers all crossed within one second of each other. He missed first by 0.3 seconds. 

Rounding out the day, Ryan Richert took home fourth place in the 10,000m run, dropping 15 seconds off his previous best time by crossing in 31.24.74.
