Natasha Miller is in fourth place with a record first-day performance and leads all current collegiate athletes at the halfway point of the heptathlon at the prestigious 2011 Mt. Sac Relays.
Miller, who has won the last two NAIA Heptathlon titles, tallied 3,384 points through the first four events which featues a number of elite athletes. She currently trails Olympians Sharon Day (USA), who has 3,546 points, Ruky Abdula (Canada), who has 3,534, and former Big 10 Champ Liz Roehrig who has 3,488 points.
She is currently 104 points ahead of where she was when establishing the school record when winning the title at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor National Championship meet and set a new PR and school record in one of the four events today.
The field features a number of top NCAA Division I athletes including the defending NCAA Division I champion and numerous All-Americans and conference champions. Miller is currently leading the field of currently collegiate athletes, holding a 29 point lead over the defending Big 12 Pentathlon champion Chante McMillian of Nebraska.
Miller ran a 14.13 in the 100 hurdles to open the day, recording her second-fastest time ever and scoring 960 points. In the high jump, she cleared 1.82m (5'-11.5") to establish a new personal best and school record, adding 1,003 points to the total.
In the third event, Miller recorded a throw of 10.10m (33'-1.75") in the shot put to score 536 points. She closed out the day with a time of 25.02 in the 200m run, her second-best time ever and equal to her time at the NAIA Outdoor Nationals to record 885 points in the final event.
Miller wraps up the heptathlon on Thursday with the long jump, javelin throw and the 800m run beginning at 1:00 p.m.
