LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After the two teams battled for nearly four hours and through 14 innings, darkness finally forced the conclusion of the GSAC game between Biola and Azusa Pacific to be completed on Saturday. The game was tied at 4-4 when it was halted.

The suspended game is the longest game for the Eagles since playing a 17-inning playoff game in 2001.

Biola got off to a hot start in the game with one run in the second and two more in the third. Drake Fages led off the second with a double off the left-center field fence and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Brent Opdyke.

In the third, Michael Andrews scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0, then Boone Farrington came around to score on an RBI-groundout by Mac Sullivan.

The Cougars got two back in the fifth.  Johnathan Erb led off the frame with a solo home run to center and Alex Ring drove home another with a double to make it a 3-2 game.

Azusa Pacific tied the score in the top of the eighth with sound, fundamental baseball. Ring led off with a single, was sacrificed to second and scored on a pinch-hit single by Matt Page. 

Biola answered right back in the bottom of the inning with a two-out rally as Fages singled, stole second and scored on a clutch single by Leon to make it a 4-3 game.

But with the Cougars down to their final strike with two out and two on in the top of the ninth, Ring singled home the tying run, forcing extra innings.

Azusa Pacific had the bases loaded in the 11th and 12th innings, but couldn't push runners across while Biola put runners on the corners with two out in the 12th only to see APU's Brent Warren make a spectacular diving catch to retire the side.

So far in the game, APU has recorded 18 hits, but has left 19 runners on base including at least one in all but three innings.

The game will be resumed in the top of the 15th inning prior to the scheduled doubleheader between the teams at Azusa Pacific on Saturday. The game will begin at 11:00 a.m.
