Brian Loard have been named the first recipients of the Golden State Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively, for the 2011 season as announced by the conference on Monday.
Kevin Ryan, a junior from Redlands, tossed a complete-game one-hitter as Biola defeated Westmont 6-0 in the first contest of a four-game series. The junior had his no-hit bid broken up in the eighth inning after a leadoff single. However, he would strikeout the side and send down the final three batters in the ninth for the win. Ryan finished with eight strikeouts, one walk and one hit allowed in nine innings of work.
On the season, Ryan is 3-0 with a 2.53 ERA and leads the team with 32 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched.
Brian Loard, a senior from Long Beach, had a solid week, going 7-for-12 (.583) at the plate with a home run, three doubles and eight RBIs as Biola went 5-0 in 5 GSAC games. His best game came in the first game of a four-game series with Westmont as he went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs as the Eagles defeated the Warriors 6-0.
Loard is batting .350 on the year with two home runs and 15 RBIs.
Biola (14-8, 8-3 GSAC) hosts a non-conference game against Cal State San Marcos on Monday at 2:00 p.m. before opening a four-game GSAC series against San Diego Christian College Wednesday.
