SAN DIEGO --- Nick Turner allowed just three runs, going the distance for Biola in its GSAC opener, but the offense was unable to get much going in a 3-0 loss at No. 8 Point Loma Nazarene University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles drop to 5-6 on the season and 0-1 on the young GSAC season. The eighth-ranked Sea Lions improve to 6-2 and to 1-0 in conference play.

Turner had another solid start for Biola, going the distance and allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out six in the ball game. One of his only mistakes came in the bottom of the first as Scott Stidham hit a two-out, two-run home run to open the scoring early.

Turner was able to shake that off and pitched well over the next getting clutch outs when he needed while awaiting the Biola offense.

However, Point Loma Nazarene starter Chris Gonzales also went the distance, scattering six hits over nine shutout innings and also striking out six in the contest.

Biola had just two real opportunities to pick up a run in the game. The first came in the top of the second as the Eagles looked to answer PLNU's two early runs. With one out, Drake Fages walked and Garrett Leon followed with a single through the left side of the infield. But Gonzales worked out of the jam with a double play.

The Eagles rallied again in the ninth with Vinnie Fayard hitting a one-out single. He was then moved over to third with on a single to left-center by Mac Sullivan. But Gonzales worked his magic and got a pair of shallow fly balls to right to end the game.

Fayard picked up two of Biola's six hits in the game, going 2-for-4 in the contest with a double.

The two teams return to action on Wednesday in the second game of the four-game series. First pitch at Carroll B Land Field is slated for 2:00 p.m. The series wraps up with a doubleheader between the two schools on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
