LONG BEACH, Calif. --- Biola swimmers broke two school records and added four new NAIA Qualifying times last week at the 2011 Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference Championships at Olympic Plaza in Long Beach.

The meet was the final tuneup for Biola before heading to the NAIA National Championships in St. Peters, Mo. the first week of March. It featured a number of schools from the west coast including a large number of NCAA Division I and Division II programs.

The swim of the weekend came from Mark Diaz, who broke a long-standing school record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.78. Diaz broke the record set back in 2004 by nearly two seconds, dropping his qualifying time in the process. His swim earned him 11th place in the event overa.. He also took 13th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.61.

Rounding out the strong performances on the men's side was Chris Stutzman, who 10th in the 100 free (46.98 and also placed 16th in the 50 free (21.84) and the 200 free (1:46.67). 

On the women's side, April Smith dropped a bit of time of her previous school record in the 400 IM, placing fifth overall with a time of 4:38.16. She also finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.20) and 10th in the 200 IM (2:11.10).

Fellow senior Emily Mosbacher placed 16th in the 50 free, swimming an impressive 55.15 in the event. She also placed 10th in the 50 free in 24.98 and swam a season-best 1:00.30 in the 100 butterfly.

Amber Kiel placed 11th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.94 and also picked up a season-best time of 5:32.71in the 500 free.

Monica Hurt picked up a qualifying time in the 100 free, dropping her best time by nearly a second to 56.83. She also swam a season-best in the 200 free (2:01.91).

Brittney Rosania swim in the finals of both butterfly events, placing 12th in the 100 (1:00.38) and 16th in the 200 (2:19.06). 

Bailey Johnson earned a pair of qualifying times last week, one coming in the 200 IM (2:19.25) and another in the 200 free (2:04.03).

Alison Seek also picked up a new qualifying time in the 200 free (2:04.17) and placed 13th overall in the 1,650 free with a season-best time of 18:52.97.

Rachael Sirjord swam a season-best time of 1:02.40 in the 100 fly and Bethany Turner picked up a pair of qualifying times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

The Biola relay teams also had success. The 400 medley relay placed eighth with the 200 and 400 freestyle relays winning the consolation heats by placing ninth. The 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay teams placed 10th.

Biola now makes its final preparations for the 2011 NAIA National Championships held in St. Peters, Mo., March 2-5.
