LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola picked up a pair of wins in singles competition but was unable to pull out the win, falling 7-2 to Whittier College on Saturday afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center.
The Eagles drop to 1-2 on the season while the Poets win their season-opener to improve to 1-0.
Biola picked up wins at No.3 and No. 6 singles, both victories coming in three-set thrillers. At No. 3 singles,
Mariah Pace came back from a first-set 6-3 loss to win the second set 6-2. In the third set, Pace jumped out early and won 10-5 to take the match.
The story was similar at No. 6 singles where
Jessica Thong dropped the first set 6-0. However, she fought back to take the second 6-4 then easy won 10-3 in the third set.
Biola returns to the court on Tuesday, opening GSAC play against Vanguard University. First serve at the Biola Tennis Center is slated for 2:00 p.m.
