Gasner Breaks Two School Records at Azusa Pacific Qualifier

AZUSA, Calif. --- Senior Kelsey Gasner broke a pair of school records and earned NAIA Automatic Qualifying times in both events to lead Biola at the Auzsa Pacific Indoor Qualifier on Saturday in Azusa.

Gasner picked up a win and broke school records in two differenct events. She placed second the 1,000 in a time of 2:53.92, a new school record and the second-best mark in the NAIA so far this year. She was just 0.8 seconds behind the event winner from APU.

Later in the meet, she shattered the record in the mile with a time of 4:58.13, one of the top three times in the NAIA, winning by 4.5 seconds.

Biola also had three other event winners on the day. In the women's 800m run, Brooke Forsi crossed first in a time of 2:20.00, earning a provisional qualifying mark in the event. Taylor McCahon won the women's pole vault by clearing 3.43 meters (11-feet, 3-inches) and also earned a "B" qualifier mark.

Freshman Peter Stacy won the men's javelin with a throw of 51.77m. Jared Zimmerman took second-place in the event with a throw of 37.72m.

Junior Nychele Fischetti also earned an automatic qualifying mark in the 1,000, finishing just behind Gasner with a time of 2:59.76 which is the fourth-fastest time in the NAIA.

Biola will send a small contingent back to APU this weekend for the Azusa Pacific Last Chance Indoor Qualifier on Friday and Saturday.
