LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola junior outside hitter Christine Douglas and freshman middle blocker Amy Weststeyn have been named to the 2011 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball All-America Second-Team as selected by the NAIA Volleyball All-America Selection Committee on Monday.

The pair helped guide the Eagles to a final record of 27-13, its 10th all-time appearance in the NAIA Quarterfinals and the only significant upset in the tournament: a five-set stunner over No. 4 Embry-Riddle (Fla.).

Douglas, a 6-1 junior from Cypress, earned All-America honors for the second time in her career, receiving third-team recognition last season. This year, she continued to pace the Biola offense from the outside, leading the team with 489 kills (3.37 per set), reaching double-figures in 29 matches and recording 20 in three matches. She ranked third in the GSAC in kills at the end of the regular season and had the 10th-best attack percentage as well. 

During the NAIA National Tournament, Douglas had 56 kills in five matches and became the 11th player to eclipse the 1,000 kill plateau by recording 11 in the first match of the tournament. Needing just two seasons to accomplish the feat, she was the second-fastest player to reach the 1,000 kill mark and currently has 1,049 with one full season to go.

In addition to her solid offensive numbers, Douglas made an impressive improvement in her defensive numbers this year, recording 90 total blocks in 2011 including 20 solo, well over twice her total from 2010.

Weststeyn, a 6-3 freshman from Visalia, had one of the best seasons by a freshman in the NAIA and one of the best first-years by a Biola volleyball player in program history. Weststeyn finished the regular season as the top blocker in the conference by a large margin, finishing with 150 total blocks, matching the single-season school record set by Michelle Warkentin in 2003. She averaged 1.14 blocks per set including 23 solo blocks. During the course of the season, she established a school record with 11 blocks in a five-set match, missing the overall record by just one.

Weststeyn also had 313 kills on the season--the third-best total on the squad this year, averaging 2.37 per set this year. She finished the regular season ranked fifth in the conference in attack percentage, posting a mark of .343 during the year.

Weststeyn seemed to save her best for last, being named to the 2011 NAIA Volleyball National Championship all-tournament team after posting the second-best attack percentage in the tournament at .389 and recording 64 kills including a season-high 19 in Biola's upset win over No. 4 Embry-Riddle to win Pool D.
