Chase Adams
Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah --- Chase Adams had 17 points and Given Kalipinde added 15 as No. 15 Biola survived a late charge to pull off a 59-50 upset win over #10 Westminster College (Utah) on Saturday night in the final game of the Westminster Holiday Classic.

The Eagles pick up their third-straight game and head to Christmas Break with a 9-2 record. The Griffins fall to 11-3 with their third-straight loss to a GSAC team.

Biola had a solid defensive night against one of the better shooting teams in the country, holding Westminster to just 38.5% shooting and just 1-of-14 from three-point range. The Eagles connected on 42.6% of shots from the field and out-rebounded Westminster 41-33.

Biola led from start to finish, quickly jumping out to a 17-7 lead over the first eight minutes of the game. The Eagles held their largest lead of the half at 32-19 with 2:27 to go in the first half and led by nine at the break.

The Eagles looked ready to cruise early in the second half as Adams drained a three-pointer to give Biola a 44-27 lead just over two minutes in.

But things changed quickly as Westminster came alive and rattled off a 15-point run to quickly pull back to within two at 44-42 with 13:03 to go. The two teams exchanged points over the next seven minutes with Biola clinging to a slight two-point lead through much of the time. But a layup by Davey Hopkins followed by a pair of free throws made it a six-point game with five minutes to play.

After Westminster pulled back within four with 3:41 to go Kalipinde hit a three-pointer to stretch the lead back to seven.

Neither team would score for the next few minutes but the Griffins had a good chance after a missed free throw. However, Kalipinde picked off a pass and took it coast-to-coast to make it a nine-point game with just over a minute to play. Despite Biola missing the front end of two different one-and-one free throw chances, the Eagles clamped down on defense and did not allow Westminster to get off a good shot over the final minute to seal the victory.

Adams led Biola with 17 points, hitting four three-pointers and adding two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Kalipinde recorded 15 points and had 14 rebounds, connecting on 7-of-14 from the field. Hopkins added 11 points by hitting 4-of-5 shots.

Alex Drecksel came off the bench to score 18 points to lead the Griffins while Ben Walker added 11 points.

Biola returns to action after Christmas with three games in three days, hosting a trio of Canadian schools in the final non-conference tuneups before closing out the season with 16 conference games. The homestead starts with The University of the Fraser Valley (B.C.) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
