LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University senior volleyball defensive specialist Joy Talcott has been named as a 2011 Capital One Academic All-America College Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on Monday.

Talcott, a senior from San Clemente, Calif., excelled in the classroom over her four seasons with the Eagles, entering the year with a 3.94 GPA in pursuit of a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Bible. She has been named to Biola's Dean's List in each of her six completed semesters at Biola so far and plans to graduate this spring before working on her teaching certificate.

In addition, Talcott's contributions on the court have been highly regarded as well, providing solid defense in the back row for the Eagles this season. The senior has appeared in 38 of 40 matches for Biola this season, finishing with 299 digs (2.51 per set) and has committed just 11 service reception errors in 307 attempts for a team-best .964 percentage. Talcott also has 16 kills and 17 aces on the season.

The Capital One College Division Academic All-America volleyball team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and junior college institutions. Talcott was one of 18 student-athletes on the three team and one of just two from the Golden State Athletic Conference. 

Talcott becomes Biola's seventh Academic All-American and the third volleyball player to earn the honor. Kelsey Christoferson was named an Academic All-American in 2009 and Meghan Warkentin in 2008. 

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
