ANGWIN, Calif. --- Junior forward
Andre Murillo scored 30 points on 10-of-13 shooting and added 10 rebounds as Biola wrapped up its season-opening round trip with an 82-63 win at Pacific Union College in a non-conference game on Friday afternoon at the Covered Wagon in Angwin.
The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season with the victory which came less that 24 hours after a victory at Menlo College on Thursday. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-2.
Pacific Union just had no answer inside for Murillo, who either scored or was sent to the line just about every time the ball found its way into his hands. He finished by hitting 10-of-13 from the field and going 10-of-15 from the free throw line, scoring 19 of the Eagles' 41 first-half points.
Lamar Lee added 12 points and seven assists for Biola while
Chase Adams rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Eagles with 11 points.
Biola got off to a bit of a sluggish start in the contest, allowing the Pioneers to open up an 8-3 over the first 2:30 of the game. After taking a brief lead, a three-pointer by Pacific Union put the Eagles down again at 11-10. But Biola responded with a 14-5 run with eight points from Murillo to take a 24-15 lead with 8:31 left in the half. The Pioneers briefly closed the gap to as few as six, but Biola started to pull away and held a 13-point lead at 41-28 at the break.
In the second half, BIola opened with a 15-3 run over the first five minutes of the period to take a commanding 56-31 lead. The Eagles would keep the lead at around 20 the rest of the way as they cruised to their second-straight win.
Biola shot 53.6% in the contest while holding Pacific Union to 39.3% overall. The Eagles also hit nine three-pointers and shot better than 50% (52.9%) from beyond the arc in the contest.
Biola returns to La Mirada next week for its home opener on Saturday, hosting Arizona Christian University at 3:00 p.m. at Chase Gymnasium.
