Chase Adams had 20 points and Andrew Murillo and
Zack Zaragoza each added 15 as No. 15 Biola University opened the 2011-12 season with a 75-48 victory over Menlo College in a non-conference contest in Haynes-Prim Pavilion in Atherton.
The Eagles improve to 1-0 with the commanding victory. It was their 17th-straight season-opening win, a streak dating back to 1994.
Biola opened the game on a 21-4 run, taking early command of the contest and rolling throughout with five of the team's first eight baskets coming from beyond the three-point arc. Adams scored all 20 of his points in the opening period, connecting on 6-of-9 from the field including 5-of-8 from three-point range.
The Eagles would head to the locker room with a 51-22 lead after shooting 56.7 percent in the first half while holding the Oaks (0-1) to just 26.3 percent from the field. In fact, Menlo scored 10 of its 22 first-half points from the charity stripe.
The two teams played relatively evenly in the second half as Biola held its own the rest of the way.
Murillo had the team's first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half.
Biola remains in the Bay area for its second game of the year, traveling north to Angwin to face Pacific Union College in a non-conference clash at 3:00 p.m.
