LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola has earned an at-large berth to the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Tournament and--by virtue of moving up to No. 9 in the final NAIA poll--received an Opening Round bye as the national office announced the 36-team field on Sunday.
The Eagles picked up a pair of huge road wins over the final week of the season to finish with a 23-12 record and tied for fourth in fhe GSAC at 10-8. The solid finish helped Biola move all the way up to No. 9 in the final NAIA National rankings which were released earlier in the day. That likely gives the Eagles a bye in the NAIA Opening Round and a trip straight to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa.
Biola is making its 11th trip to the NAIA National Tournament and its fifth-straight. Overall, the Eagles are 38-20 in tournament games and have reached at least the quarterfinals in nine of its previous 10 appearances.
The National Tournament takes place Nov. 29 - Dec. 3 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The top 11 teams in the tournament and the host insitution (Morningside College) earn Opening Round byes and advance directly to Sioux City. The remining 24 teams play in 12 Opening Round matches on campus sites with the winners rounding out the championship field. The opening round pairings will be announced later on Sunday.
