LA MIRADA, Calif. — Former Biola University swimmer and current assistant coach Brittany Sharpe has been named the next Head Swimming and Diving Coach for the Eagles, as announced Tuesday by Athletics Director Dave Holmquist.

Sharpe, a 2008 Biola graduate, will take over the program and serve as the fifth coach in the program's history.

“I am excited and honored to be given this opportunity,” said Sharpe. “Coach Shepard has been a great example for me and he has done well building this program over the last seven years. I am definitely excited to continue working with the team to build on the success of the program.”

Eddie Shepard, who had served as head swimming and diving coach at Biola University for seven years, announced his resignation in May to move to Washington State where his wife is completing work on her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

Sharpe was a four-year member of the Biola swim team from 2005-08, swimming distance freestyle and qualifying for the NAIA National Championships each year. She graduated from Biola in spring of 2008 with a degree in Business Administration.

“I am impressed with Brittany's commitment to the Biola program as well as her organizational skills and ability to teach swimming,” said Holmquist. “I think she will do an excellent job as our coach.”
