Biola Suffers Another Lopsided Loss, Falling 22-9 to Concordia


IRVINE, Calif. --- Despite outscoring Concordia 9-1 over the final four innings, Biola had a huge 21-run hole to dig out of after the first five and ultimately lost 22-9 in the first game of a four-game GSAC series on Wednesday in Irvine.

Biola drops to 18-11 and suffers its fifth loss in its last seven games--four of which saw the opponents scored double-digit runs--and to 11-10 in conference play. Concordia improves to 18-16 and to 8-13 in the GSAC.

Concordia jumped all over Biola, scoring five in the second inning, four in the third, seven in the fourth and five more in the fifth to go up 21-0 after just five innings.

It was a tough day for Biola starter Mike Frisina, who allowed 12 runs on 11 hits over three-plus innings and suffered the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season.

The Biola bats finally got going late in the game as the backup players rallied to score nine runs over the final four innings. In his final at-bat of the game, Daniel Bodemer rattled a triple into center field to plate Garrett Leon with the first run of the game in the sixth.

Biola added two more in the seventh on a two-run home run by #BrianLoard#, his third homer of the season.

In the eighth, Biola added a five-spot. Benji Sutherland led off the frame with a double, then came around to score one out later on an RBI-double by Mike Lopez. Two batters later, Michael Andrews drove home two more runs with a double, then came around to score on yet another double, this time by Armando Arzate

Biola would tack on one final run in the ninth on the first home run of teh season by Sutherland.

The two teams return to action on Thursday for the second game of the series, then close out the series with a doubleheader at Biola on Saturday.
