LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Cal State San Marcos scored nine runs over the final three innings to pull away and beat Biola 11-8 in a non-conference game on Monday afternoon at Eagles Diamond.

The Eagles (20-13) got off to a fast start with a run in the first inning as Armando Arzate drove home Benji Sutherland.

The Cougars (25-11-1) tied the game with a run in the top of the third, but Biola came right back with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Rucky McKinley drove home the first run with an RBI-single and Christopher Neal added the second with a sacrifice fly.

Cal State San Marcos recorded another run in the top of the fifth to pull within one only to see the Eagles get the run back on a balk in the bottom of the sixth.

But the Cougars would take their first lead in in the top of the seventh, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring four runs--all with two outs. CSUSM would tack on three more runs to blow the game wide open in the eighth as Kevin Silvett crushed a three-run home run to make it 9-4.

The Cougars would add two more run in the top of the ninth before Biola made one final run. Vinnie Fayard closed the gap a bit with a three-run home run, his 12th of the season and Arzate added one more run with a single to make it 11-8. But Cal State San Marcos was finally able to get the final out to end the game.

Phil Blazek started the game and pitched a solid 4-2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Dale Harder suffered the loss in relief, falling to 3-3. Brett Miller picked up the win in relief to improve to 3-0.

Biola returns to action on Wednesday (Apr. 14), traveling to Riverside to start a four-game GSAC series with California Baptist University.
