JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- Biola's women's 4x800 relay team ended the second day of action at the 2010 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Friday, placing fourth in an elite field at the MSHA/ETSU Athletic Center on the campus of East Tennessee State University.

The relay quartet of Nychele Fischetti, Katie Thede, Jane Kerner and Kelsey Gasner finished fourth in a time of 9:17.84 to earn NAIA All-American honors with a fourth-place finish. It was the third consecutive 4x800 relay final for the Eagles and their best national finish so far.

“To consistently race with the likes of Simon Fraser (Canada), Wayland Baptist (Texas), Concordia (Nebraska), and Azusa Pacific really indicates the level of intensity and performance that our relay teams have risen to,” said Biola Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman.

Junior Natasha Miller came back after Thursday's marathon pentathlon day to make it through the first two rounds of qualifying in the 60 hurdles. Miller will be competing in the triple jump, high jump and 60 hurdle finals on Saturday along with a leg of the women's distance medley relay.

Junior Sarah Brooks and senior newcomer Kirk Carlson both took part in the 3,000 meter semifinals on Friday. Brooks finished 13th overall and missed qualifying for the finals by less than three seconds. Carlson ran to a 19th-place finish overall in just his second collegiate race.

“Kirk is just an awesome student-athlete. He's done a super job so far on what certainly is a steep learning curve.” said Zimmerman.

The women's team currently sits in fourth place after six events scored.
