AZUSA, Calif. --- Azusa Pacific's small baseball field could barely contain much on Wednesday as nine home runs were hit between the two teams with APU cranking six and cruising to a 14-4 GSAC victory over Biola.

The Eagles, who fall to 7-4 overall and 1-3 in GSAC play with the loss, managed to hit three home runs in the game. However, senior first baseman Brice Cutspec matched that number on his own for the Cougars, who improve to 8-5 and pick up their first conference win to move to 1-4.

Cutspec finished the day going 4-for-5 with three home runs, three runs scored and five RBIs. He was one of two Azusa Pacific players to record four hits in the game, joined by Virgil Chivara's 4-for-5 day as the Cougars cranked out 19 hits.

Biola actually got off to a strong start in the game and held a lead through the first 2-1/2 innings. The Eagles opened the game with a double off the bat of Boone Farrington followed by a home run by Garrett Leon to go up 2-0 just five pitches into the game. Biola would keep the pressure up with a single by Rucky McKinley, but that proved to be it for offense for the Eagles for a bit.

Azusa Pacific got one back in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Delgado, then broke took the lead with a three-spot in the third. With two out and a runner on first Ryan Delgado belted a two-run home run to give the Cougars the lead, then Cutspec added on with a solo shot on an 0-2 pitch.

APU broke the game open with a five-spot in the fifth inning on the strength of three home runs. Josh Leite opened the frame with a solo shot. Then, two outs later, Cutspec blasted his second of the game to make it 5-2.  That shot chased Biola starter Mike Frisina who hadn't pitched that bad up to that point. However, reliever Bobby O'Neill was greeted with a walk, a single and a three-run shot by Jason Plowman before getting the final out of the inning.

Biola managed to get a pair of runs back in the top of the sixth thanks to back-to-back home runs by Vinnie Fayard and Trevor Blood, which cut the lead to 9-2. But Cutspec would add three more runs to the Cougar tally in the sixth with his third homer of the game, a three-run shot to right field which put the game out of reach.

Azusa Pacific would add one run in the seventh and another in the eight without the use of the long ball to account for the final scoring.

Frisina suffered the loss and falls to 1-1 on the season while Peter Gehle picked up the win to improve to 3-1. Gehle allowed just eight hits in the game, going the distance and recording 12 strikeouts along the way.

Biola heads back up to Azusa on Thursday to close out the first two games of the four game series with a single game at 2:00 p.m. The series wraps up with a doubleheader at Biola on Saturday.
