KANSAS CITY --- Despite holding one of the NAIA's highest-scoring teams to its second-lowest point total on the season, Biola was unable to pull out a victory as Oklahoma Baptist University rallied back from a double-digit second half deficit to pull out a 59-54 win in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Buffalo Funds NAIA Men's Basketball National Championships on Saturday.
The Eagles wrap up the 2009-10 season with a record of 29-6 while the Bison advance to the semifinals with a 31-3 record.
Marlon King had a game-high 21 points and hit 8-of-9 from the field to pace Biola while
Rocky Hampton added 12 points for the Eagles.
The big difference in the game proved to be the second half. Biola came out playing strong defense, holding OBU to just 17 points and 25.9 percent shooting in the opening period. It was the lowest scoring half for the Bison, who rank fifth in the NAIA with an 88.8 ppg average and lead the nation in field goal percentage at 56.3 percent.
But in the second half, the Eagles ran out of gas. Still leading by 16 at 41-25 with 14:00 to play, the Bison started to get hot from outside while Biola went ice cold. OBU outscored the Eagles 24-8 over the next nine minutes to tie the game and would take its first lead since early in the first period with 2:25 to play. The Eagles desperately tried to fight back but their last field goal came with 3:13 left
